Wednesday/Thursday Emergency Medical Technician Summer Accelerated 2023

An Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is a certified pre-hospital health care professional who is capable of providing Basic Life Support (BLS) at the scene of an emergency and while enroute to the hospital. Emergency Medical Technician work is both physically and psychologically challenging. Emergency Medical Technicians are employed by fire, police and rescue agencies, hospitals, private ambulance companies and in a variety of business and industries with a high potential for accidental injury or illness.
All Emergency Medical Technicians must understand how to handle an emergency situation, control bleeding, apply splints, assist with childbirth, manage airway control, administer oxygen, perform cardiac care and other basic life support (BLS) skills.
Becoming an Emergency Medical Technician requires strict training. Training classes prepare students to function as practitioners in the prehospital emergency medical environment. The curriculum meets the requirements of the PA Dept. of Health, and the National Registry of EMTs. Students who complete the program successfully will be eligible to take the National Registry written and practical examinations for certification.
Hybrid Learning Model Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) training classes offer pre-recorded and scheduled "live" online content, with occasional weekend "live" remote sessions being required. Practical skills competency days will occur throughout the 9 week course of instruction. This course meets every Wednesday and Thursday from 8:00 - 4:00 p.m. for "in person" sessions. There is online content due each week as well. Each week, on Monday at 8:00, all online assignments will be opened and the student has 24 hour online classroom access to complete those assignments at their own pace. All assignments will then close and lock on Sunday at 11:55. Clinical field time is required and will be accomplished on the student's own time.
Attendance is extremely important. Classroom absences are strictly monitored and clinical or field absences are limited regardless of the reason.
The Emergency Medical Technician practical skills training classes are held in locations throughout Montgomery County. The classes start quarterly. The primary course location is:
- Harleysville Area EMS, 309 Main Street, Harleysville PA 19438
The 224-hour course is designed to prepare the candidate to take the NREMT psychomotor and cognitive exams. It includes classroom, lab and field internships at various locations in Montgomery County, PA.
Students who have successfully completed the didactic and clinical components of this program will be eligible to sit for the National Registry Exam.
Please note: PA Criminal Background checks and Child Abuse Clearance Forms are required for entry into the EMT programs.
